Aaron J. Balgaard, M.D.

As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Aaron Balgaard offers specialized, experienced care for injuries and conditions of the hip, knee, and shoulder as well as fracture care. He is committed to providing evidence-based treatments for the best possible outcomes, and his surgical expertise includes total joint replacement of the hip and knee, robotic-assisted joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, and arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder.

Dr. Balgaard completed his undergraduate studies at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before attending the University of Minnesota Medical School in Duluth and Minneapolis. He later completed an orthopedic surgery residency at The University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita.

Dr. Balgaard’s grandfather was a doctor in Evansville, Minnesota. Watching him practice and observing the impact he had on the community inspired Dr. Balgaard to begin his own journey in medicine. Today, he is committed to providing care that enhances his patients’ quality of life, and he enjoys seeing patients who can function better than they have in years after treatment. He is honored to be practicing in the region where he was raised, and he strives to provide the highest quality of orthopedic care to people throughout west central Minnesota.

When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Balgaard values time with his family. He stays active through outdoor activities, like hunting, fishing, and basketball. He also enjoys woodworking and decoy carving.

Dr. Balgaard is available to see patients at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists in Alexandria and Fergus Falls.
