About Our Practice
Dr. David Larson started providing state-of-the-art medical and surgical treatment for disorders of the musculoskeletal system in 1974 when Alexandria Orthopaedic Associates opened. With a foundation built on a high level of trust and strong relationships, we became Heartland Orthopedic Specialists in 2009 to better represent our growing patient area as well as our expanding regional presence throughout West Central Minnesota.
We are committed to offering industry-leading care and are proud to be a part of an integrated healthcare organization called Alomere Health. With one hospital and three clinics, Alomere Health, previously known as Douglas County Hospital, includes a wide range of clinics and services on-site to extensively meet the needs of patients. Beginning in 1969, the hospitals of Alexandria partnered together to create a hospital setting that combines the wealth of knowledge and expertise from multiple hospitals.
Now serving over 150 zip codes throughout Central Minnesota, Heartland Orthopedic Specialists at Alomere Health provides unified care to better focus on you—the neighbors, friends, family, and community we serve. Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic care in the areas of trauma, sports medicine, and elective reconstructive surgery.
At Heartland Orthopedic Specialists, we will strive to maintain a complement of physicians who are certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and will provide quality orthopedic care to our patients. We will allow sufficient time to properly evaluate, counsel, and answer questions raised by our patients. We commit ourselves to continuing medical education and adding newer, advanced technology as it becomes available to ensure our patients are receiving up-to-date, quality care.
We will always put the welfare of our patients before any financial, political, or personal considerations. We will not let economic aspects of the patients’ medical care impede proper evaluation and prescriptions. In summary, we honor the Hippocratic oath and pledge the best possible orthopedic surgical care for those people entrusted to our services.

Heartland Orthopedic Specialists & Alomere Health
In its largest-ever expansion, Douglas County Hospital (DCH) more than doubled its size in 2010, with a 110,000-square-foot, three-story addition, a $32 million project that was paid for through a combination of cash on hand and tax-exempt revenue bonds. The ground floor was leased to Heartland Orthopedic Specialists, the second floor provided a new surgical inpatient unit, and the third floor housed DCH’s obstetric and nursery unit, the Birth Place.
In 2011, Douglas County Hospital announced plans to merge with Heartland Orthopedic Specialists and, shortly thereafter, also Alexandria Clinic (which also included Osakis Clinic). The merger of all three entities was completed July 1, 2012, instantly increasing the opportunities for outstanding care and service. These three highly respected entities each retained their names, but they began operating as a single organization.
Through shared medical records, shared resources, greater efficiencies, and a seamless continuity of care, the hospital and the clinics have all been able to improve results for patients—and for the entire community. Behind the scenes, the partnership has been a powerful draw for recruiting additional highly skilled providers to the team.
