What is a same-day joint replacement procedure?
Known as arthroplasty, total joint replacement is a long-term treatment for patients with severe or degenerative joint damage. During a joint replacement procedure, a specialty-trained orthopedic surgeon removes damaged portions of a joint. The surgeon then places and secures a new joint made of specialized metal or plastic structures. Traditionally, knee and hip replacement procedures are performed in a hospital and require an overnight stay for postsurgical recovery.
For eligible patients, a joint replacement performed as a same-day, outpatient surgery allows the patient to recover at home rather than at the hospital.
Am I a good candidate for a same-day joint replacement?
