Fellowship-Trained Sports Medicine Physician Dr. John Harvey Joins Heartland Orthopedic Specialists
Heartland Orthopedic Specialists welcomed their first nonsurgical sports medicine specialist. Jonathan (John) Harvey, M.D., fellowship-trained sports medicine physician and University of Minnesota alumnus, joined the practice on Aug. 19. Nonsurgically treating bone, joint and muscle injuries, Dr. Harvey is available to see patients at the practice’s Alexandria office, located at 111 17th Ave. E., Suite 101. As a fellowship-trained nonsurgical sports medicine specialist, Dr. John Harvey offers comprehensive care for general orthopedic and sports-related injuries. He has extensive expertise in acute fracture care and the latest evidence-based nonsurgical treatment strategies, including platelet-rich plasma and ultrasound-guided injections. Dr. John Harvey will also be providing sports medicine coverage for the University of Minnesota Morris as well as several local area high schools.

Dr. John Harvey received two undergraduate degrees from the University of Minnesota in Duluth before earning his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. He went on to complete the Halifax Health Family Medicine Residency Program in Daytona Beach, Florida. Choosing to further specialize in nonsurgical bone, joint and muscle care, Dr. John Harvey then completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship with the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He holds board certification and a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine.
