Athletic Trainer Rich Hardy Elected to International Journal’s Editorial Board

This month, Heartland Orthopedic Specialists’ Rich Hardy, Ed.D., L.A.T., CSCS, was elected as a member of the editorial board for the international, peer-reviewed publication Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery. The local athletic trainer will take part in furthering advancements in orthopedic and sports medicine care as part of the leading journal’s editorial board.

Years ago, Hardy was asked to serve as a peer reviewer for Arthroscopy, and he accepted as part of his dedication to improving the research at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists as a member of their sports medicine team. Hardy has a robust background in orthopedic and sports medicine research and has co-authored several peer-reviewed studies and articles himself. Now, Hardy has accepted a position on Arthroscopy’s editorial board. He joins his former Heartland Orthopedics sports medicine team member, retired sports medicine surgeon Dr. Jefferson Brand, who serves as an assistant editor-in-chief for Arthroscopy.

“All of us at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists want to congratulate Rich for this well-earned honor,” says Dr. Emily Monroe, a sports medicine surgeon who has herself been published in Arthroscopy and co-authored multiple, peer-reviewed articles and studies. “Not only has Rich served as a cornerstone in the research-based foundation of our sports medicine team, but he also remains dedicated to the individual patient and athlete who comes through our doors seeking the answers and care needed to help them get back to what they love.”

Hardy graduated from Northern State University and obtained his board certification as an athletic trainer. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney earning a Master of Arts degree in exercise science. In 2001, Hardy joined the sports medicine team at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists. In 2017, he obtained a Doctor of Education degree with a sports medicine emphasis from The United States Sports Academy. Hardy serves as an athletic trainer for area athletes and also teaches human physiology, anatomy and sports and exercise science at the University of Minnesota Morris.
